My Clown commited suicide

So I just get home and I look in my tank. I turn on the flashlight, and I only see one Maroon Clown. I look behind the rocks and look through all the nooks and crannies. Then my dad comes down and I ask him where Big Ed is? " I don't know he says, I was just about to ask you. Because when I came home there was only one."
So I look at the back of the tank and there he is. All dried up with no eyes. I was so  I just paired them up too and they were getting along great.

Now my question is, what could have made Big Ed jump :notsure: All I had were the 2 clowns and a purple firefish, and the clean up crew and corals. I don't have the the cover on the tank, cuz I have mh lights and it gets really hot. I know clowns are the jumping type. So if anyone out there can throw in thier 2 cents... Oh, and what would happen if I try to put another baby clown in the tank. Would the other one just kill it, because it's not it's pal, or would they be fine and get a long?

You can get some egg crate from home depot to put over your tank. It will keep the fish in and heat out. A lot of poeple do this.

sry for your loss. i lost a fire shrimp yesterday so i feel for you. i feel worse for you I wasnt attached to the shrimp i just got it the day before mad that i spent 25.00 on it. we put so much of ourselves into these tanks that when bad things happen we feel so bad and people without tanks say its just a fish

You couldn't be more right. Do you know why you lost the shrimp? I see losing a fish as a learning thing so it doesn't happen again.

How would you put egg create over your tank? Wouldn't this block out the light. I realize this my be a silly question so please explain to the newbie.

It is called egg crate. It is the plastic square stuff that business offices have covering their lights. There is a picture somewhere on this board. Maybe someone else can explain it better.

i'm going to pick up some egg crate at the home depot today. it just sucks because i was really attached to the little guy... and now he's gone...
but, would it be ok to put another maroon clown in the tank? or will the one that i have now just try to kill it?

check your water. Poor water may be a reason for him to jump.
as far as adding another one...it's hit or miss. Buy a new one (once you're sure your water isn't the problem) then take the clown in the tank out, move around the lr, turn lights off, acclimate and add new fish, (keeping lights off) let new fish settle, then add old fish, keep lights off for 24 hours. that's the best way I know how. That way whatever terrority the old clown has will be rearranged. It'll be like adding two new fish at once to a new tank.
good luck.

It doesn't always have to be poor water qualities to make them jump,I don't even know how that would make them jump. I mean sometimes they just act up my Percula clown the female one sometimes tries to jump and splash around in my tank late at night, she did it last night. I'm sure if I didn't have it covered then she would of jumped out. I asked about it hear and some clown experts said you can't always explain their behavior.
