my coral banded shrimp is blue...why is that

There are the usual CBS as in the pictures above, then there are the more uncommon yellow CBS, and the even more uncommon blue CBS as you probably have.

The blue is not common. Nice looking shrimp.

The common CBS is a Stenopus hispidus, There are many different 'species' in the genus Stenopus commonly called Boxer Shrimp.
I know many different species are commonly called the same thing and some may be with a different color morph of that same species....some can just be mis ID as well.....I dont know if there is a blue and yellow or other colored morphs of the Stenopus hispidus. The link for SWF yellow one list it as the same so could be right or mis-ID or miss-spelled, IDK. I have been guilty of all the above myself. But heres a few different 'species' of Boxers....the Blue is a S. tenuirostris and is sometimes called a Blue Boxer Shrimp and MAY be what dszpeed04 has.....

You got lucky. where a regular one (Stenopus hispidus) goes for $9, a blue (Stenopus tenuirostris) would be around $20-$25. At the TFD (tropical fish distributor) I worked at when we'd find one of them in with a box of regular ones we'd have the nerve to call up the collection station we got them from and demand a refund because we ordered hispidus.
