My Coralife Super Skimmer

Ok...about a week ago I asked a question about how to get my skimmer working because when i plugged it in nothing was happening. Today, I get it fixed but something seems wrong. Keep in mind this is my first tank (which i have had up for about five months now) and i have never had any experience with skimmers so let me know if this seems normal because it doesn't to me. I have unplugged the skimmer because when i plug it in it seems very loud in and out of the tank ( my fish were freakin out!). Also the bubble diffuser box is overflowing. I mean it is overflowing into the tank, but it is making a TON of microbubbles through the little side vents which i thought the purpose of a the bubble diffuser was to keep the bubbles out! I am very nervous to keep it running overnight while i'm sleeping and wake up to dead fish because they were stressed out. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I also have a Corallife Skimmer but I use mine in a sump. Your right, they do a great job at producing bubbles but if the basket is not set at the correct height or if the black tube is "jammed" into the foam, it will overflow the top of the basket. Try adjusting its height and also the amount of flow with the red knob. It does take a little time to get it set right. Hope this helps.

There is also that other adjustment on the tube that connects the pump to the skimmer. Its a grey knob that you can turn to regulate air. Check the setting on that, I think they say start that out half closed then completely open. I have mine in my sump as well but I did have it HOB and it worked well. I ran it off and on while I was there for a week to "break it in" Its in the manual. let us know how it goes. Messing with that tube were is goes into the bubble defuser works as well.

Also check you filter pad in the bottom of the bubble diffuser ~ once they get dirty, they back up and the water starts flowing over the top of the basket creating microbubbles. The back pressure will also cause your skimmer to overskim and fill the collection cup with water which will overflow all over creation (check my thread in this forum to see how we modified mine, base on good input from others on this board ~ thanks folks!) to prevent that from happening! Hope you caught it before it overflowed.
