I am getting married soon and am moving into a house with my fiance, she throws a fit when the topic of a new tank comes up. Would it be possible to hang a small 1 to 2 gallon tank off the side of my display tank, and have a few mushrooms in it? All i would really need is a light because the filtration would be coming off of my main tank. Would this work okay?

if you could get a small PC light for it then i dont see why it wouldnt work. but you will find that it may be difficult to get all the plumming properly hooked up.
*EDIT* - and on the subject of getting married. if she loves you and is really going to marry you then there shouldnt be problem with you getting a new tank(if money permits). she will eventually understand that this hobby means alot to you and she will be happy for you and even buy you things for the hobby. this is what my fience does for me. but maybe i just found the perfect girl for me.

and yes its very possible to do what your suggesting, though the plumbing would probably consume half the volume of a 2 gallon tank. you could look into some of the hang on tank refugiums, they ususally have about that volume are preplumbed/lit and could make an interesting little mushroom tank.

I get dirty looks from my pre-wife, but she like them as long as she doesn't feel like I like them more than her. But if your goes nuts, either you gotta break her, or trade her in for a more agreeable model.

So you think a tube pulling in water and a tube pushing out water from the hang on tank plus the proper lighting would be suffecient for a small coral tank?

It really depends on the size of the hob fuge. I've seen them with a small power head that pushes the water back out. But they are out there.
