My First Fish!!! Finally

My tank has cycled and today I added 2 damsel's. I watched them be fed at the pet shop, and they ate agressively. They have been in my 55gallon tank for a couple of hours now, I fed them a very small amount and just watched it circulate through my tank and disappear.. the fish seemed uninterrested.. should I be conserned yet? Is it a problem if the flake does not float on the surface for long because of the current?>

It is common for fish not to eat for even a couple of days. Be concerned if they lay on the bottom, breathe heavily or other unusual behaviors. My blue hippo tang didn't eat fish food for a week. She ate off of the LR and was happy. Now she chases after the food I put in the tank. Hopefully the damsels will acclimate and be very happy as well.

well, they do appear to be munching on the LR. So I guess that is good. One of them (yellow Tail) LOVES this little cave he found... will he ever come out or is that just the habitat he enjoys?

not to be a bummer here - but be a little careful adding damsels to a tank. I know they are inexpensive, but they can be bullies and you'll end up ridding them if they are. Getting bullies out of a tank can be a real pain. If you do add other fish and notice the new fish going to the corners or dying without noticeable cause - it could be the damsels nipping at them, causing stress.
Damsels are very hardy though, and eventually they will eat. Try frozen brine shrimp or ask the pet shop what they fed them - might be different.

thanks, My LFS said taht after my tank is established and I am ready to add another fish that is 'less of a bully' that they would take back the damsells in trade if I thought there were causing a problem.

Man O man you said a mouth full there. hehe:thinking: I had four in my 90 gal and just got done taking every thing out of the tank just to get them out took about four hours over all but the tank seems to be doing much better. The fish are a lot more relaxed and are coming out to play. :happyfish

How did you cycle your tank?
Give them time.
I don't know how it would work out but I always thought it would be cool to have an all damsel tank.
No lack of action:happyfish
