75 gal tank. Reef octopus rated for 78-130 gal
First, how long does it take to break in?
Second, I saw on a youtube, the guy let it run wide open for about a week, then dialed it down, is this accurate?
Third, how tiny should the bubbles be? Is there a too small when it comes to bubble size?

The smaller the better.
Just give it a few days to work out the kinks. Maybe up to a week. Then dial it in where you want it. The lower the bubble level, the more dry the skimmate will be. The higher the bubble level, the wetter the skimmate will be.

My SWC 160 Cone took about a week to break in. As far as running it full out I think the cup will overflow, IDK that is a good idea. THe smaller the bubbles the better it will skim. Make sure you rinse it out good before you start it up. Good Luck

Thank you :) im pretty excited. I wouldve gone the scrubber route, but the power goes out too often and for too long here to successfully keep one.... Darn country livin' lol

Ehh, I deal with it when it goes out. Im used to it. It usually doesnt go out for more than a few hrs, but ya never know if someone hits a power pole or something, then its out for a while while they fix it, but its rare for that to happen. I have some battery powered air stones (which I know isnt the best cause of bubble algae, but I keep the air stones at the top so I dont think it would cause an issue). I just feel more comfortable with a skimmer cause if the power does end up going out for like a day & im @ work or something, my scrubber would prolly die. Id rather go scrubber route from what ive read, but a skimmer will get the gook out. And hey, beaches are the worlds largest skimmer & beaches have been around since the dawn of time, so there must be some validity to it :)
