Well my fish died guys. Everyone says to put lots of nooks and caves in your rocks and get rocks with lots of holes and stuff. Well guess what? My fish got stuck in a rock hole

I just lost a cherub angel the other day so I know how that is. He got stuck under a rock. He was just lodged. It sucks, he was a tiny on, not even an inch long. I'm sad....

I'm sorry for your loss.

Your rocks need to be touching on three points to prevent future tumbling and crushing of your fish, and your base rock should not be sitting on your sand or crushed coral but on the glass itself.
Also, for water current, do not lean the rocks against the back of the aquarium.
Hopefully, you find the weak spots in your rock to prevent future loss. Nothing is more frustrating - as we have all had our disappointing moments in this hobby.

Sorry to hear that. The rocks had to have shifted for him to get stuck.

NO they didn't shift. It was actual hole in the rock that he got stuck in. Not a cave or anything I created. He just got stuck in the rock itself.

Yeah, fish don't seem to be all that smart. My little bro had a damsel that got stuck i all the branches of a bleached coral skeleton that he had for decoration. He actually removed the coral and had to break off some branches so the fish ould get out. I think he went in an opening just big enough, but couldn't find that same opening to leave...
milomlo, sorry for your loss...are you sure your fish didn't go into that hole to die? They usually hide when they are sick.

Sounds more like a hitchhicker pulled it into the hole and killed it. Hard to beleive a fish will lodge itself so tight it can get free. Or it could have gotten spooked I quess.
Sorry for your loss just the same.

Oh. I'd try to cover those bigger holes with things so none of my fish can get access to them. Maybe a smaller rock in front and back to guard the hole works - provided it is well grounded so it won't shift.
Another idea is laying the rock at another angle and moving it so you can put a feather duster by it to take hold by or near the hole would be a possibility?
Yet another idea is maybe you should think about tossing that piece of rock. No piece of rock is worth killing one of my fish.
Just some ideas...

I have a Picasso that lodged himself into a hole quite some time ago. How he managed to do it, I'll never know. I plucked him out of the live rick and moved the piece to another tank so he wouldn't do it again. This is why I thought about moving the rock around and making the adjustments for the holes mentioned in the previous post.
Someone on this website I just read about ended up with a Picasso as a hitchhiker lodged in a piece of LR they bought (what a great deal for the LR! :jumping:)So, I know it does happen.
What kind of hitchhiker do you think would pull a chromis into a hole and kill it?

Triggers do that naturally. Thats what they use the hard spike on the dorsal for. Wedge themselves on purpose. Hitchers like mantis, crabs and brittles to name a few.
