ok so im new to the fourm. i have a problem with my new 72 gallon bow front tank. i have a 20 gallon hexagon tank setup but i am selling that. so i setup the bow front but every time i try to introduce the fish within the first 5 minutes they swim to the bottom and float sideways and seem to have died but when i take them out and put them into the hexagon they seem to revive themselfs. also i have not have time to test the water. the salt is fine. could someone please help???. the fish are damsels

I'm guessing that your new tank is not cycled. What are the water parameters ? How long has it been set up ? how much live rock ?

He never said they were damsels that he put in and if if your opinion is that a kind of fish that you don't like is better off dead then thats pathetic !

no hate!!! guess im biased they killed 3 of my clowns & a goby i had to pull 50 lbs of rock out to catch them. i guess i should have elaborated putting damels in the new 72 gallon tank could be risky if there are plans for fish non aggressive fish. water parameters what are your ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels?

i am not sure what my water parameters are like i said i havent had time to test them yet i was just wondering if it could be anything else without testing the water also theirs is like white flakes floating at the top of my tank

You may hate a type of fish for any reason and thats OK. Its not OK wishing that they are dead though. You were right in the way you put it in this post. He probably won't like them after awhile and will never get them out.

Ok I'm guessing you are new to saltwater. Welcome ! Everyone has to start somewhere and this site is a great place to learn. Your water parameters consist of ; PH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, alkilinity, calcium, phosphate, salinity and there are many others you can test for when you get advanced and into the reefs. Your tank is probably is going through its first cycle. This is when the Live rock is experiencing die off and the bacterias are not set up causing the nitrite build up to turn into nitrates and then ammonia and when it spikes it will kill everything you put inthe tank. It usually can take a month or more to properly cycle a tank. durijg this time you should test your water regularly, do a water change and use your normal light cycle. You can speed up the cycle with a dead shrimp but that creates a bad habit you should never have in this hobby. Cutting corners because you are anxious to get started will make you relize that there are wasy to cut corners all over until a disaster hits.

also if your not sure about testing your water, you can bring it into your LFS and they will test it for you either for free or for like 2 bucks. but once you learn more about it, it will be much easier to just get the test kits and test yourself.
It doesn't sound like your tank has cycled yet and probably has high amm. in there if they are just flopping over. damsels are tough. I wouldn't add any fish and get your water tested ASAP

thats the thing im not new ive been doing his for over 30 years and never experienced anything like this. also i have about 45 pounds of live sand in their and about 60 pounds of arganite in their. any other suggestings??

yet you ask what water parameters are and you put fish in a new tank without testing the water
