i know they can be kept in a 30, but my 29 has a puffer, and i dont want to add the extra bio load in my reef or osmething thats going to eat a bunch of krill and silversites and such. trying to keep the nutrient levels as low as possible.

hucklebuck- i dont know if they would ship.... i can ask and see what they say and ill ask them about getting anymore yellow ones in.... as far as he goes hes very good never bothers anything that i know of .... i do have one cleaner shrimp in the tank which cleans him and other snails and hermits hasnt bothered any of the..... one thing to look for is one that will eat frozen foods cuz lots of times lions are difficult to get to eat u may have to feed live foods first
i live im simi valley for the rest of u.... which is just north of the san fernando valley just in ventura county....
i got this lion fish at a fish store off of tapo canyon called simi tropical fish.... its a smaller older store not too great of a selection but they get some cool things in at good prices i picked this lion up for $20.... they have some other things im gettin for my new tank a leopard wrasse for 20 and a carpenters fairy wrasse for 20 also for my new tank which was a pretty good price....
there are some other LFS's out here that are pretty ncie drop me some emails and ill tell u where to go and what kinda stuff they have

hey murph, how friendly is that kind of fish? what other fish does it get along with?
is it reef safe?

well my lion is very friendly always swimming around perching upon stuff and wanting to be seen....
i have no complaints of it at all
its considered reef safe but "may" eat ornamental shrimp and small fish....
i would watch putting something really small in the tank cuz i could see it eating it....
i do have a small 1" yellow tail damsil but he pays no attention to him.... id watch if u added some smaller shrimp or some small gobies he might see them as food...
i have him in my tank right now with several kinds of damsils... a tomato clown, a hippo tang, a mandarin goby, an engineer goby and a siscor tail dartfish and hes very calm and no one pays him attention mines also a very vigourous eater
as for him being good with a volitan lion im not totally sure but i would guess to say he should be ok ?? :notsure:

okay so you said a mandarin is okay. what about a fire fish, orchid dottyback, cinnamon clown?
i dont have any shrimps. and i actaully dont care if it eats my fire fish :O [cuz i am thinking its a boring fish, and i would trade it in but i cant catch it. plus my wife would flip]

yeah i wouldnt worry about it with anything u mentioned very harmless IMO
try to get a smaller one they say they can get to 6 inches but mine like 3-3.5" tops and its been like that for over a year now
hard to find a yellow one so u might have to shop around and be patient
