Here is some pics of my girlfriend's 55g setup. Her and I did the hood, she staind and I built. Got about 50 more lbs lr yesterday and got it in today, about a total of 80-100lbs not sure. Just thought I would share some pics and see what everyone thought. She wanted me to, for a little constructive critisism.
We are going to put a background on it btw...lol
It is a 55g with a s.o.s. overflow, 10g fuge, mag7 for the return. 30lbs ls, and like I said 80-100lbs of lr. It also has, since wednsday, dual 175w mh w/13k bulbs.
mushrooms, polyps, zoos, rics
condy anemone
maroon clown

Skirrby, all that I really did was butt the wood together and nail it, is that what you're asking? I didn't cut 45's or anything. Then lay the top on or inside and nail it together. I used a skill saw, and a jigsaw for the opening for the door. I cut the angles for the 1" trim with a saw and angle cutter thing (lol) from wal-mart. It is made with 3/4" maple w/1" trim. Total it took probably about 4-5 hrs to build it (with breaks etc. haha). And about 3 to sand it down good and stain and poly it. Any other ?'s

kpk, It looks great. Thanks for showing pic. of the s.o.s and the refugium. I still have not got mine up and running yet. I'm thinking of doing a wet/dry. But I haven't decided yet. I still have my 20 running. I can't make myself break it down. So my plans may be to get something neat to put in it instead of using it as a sump. Anyway tell her it's looking awesome. Jenny

ok my dad dont think i need 3/4 inch plywood.. he says to use 1/2 inch.. because 3/4 would be to heavy. how heavy is yours.. and would 1/2 inch work just as good?

kpk,
what type of overflow is that?? any problems with it? how would you rate it. I am trying to do the same thing with my 55, I just want to make sure I get and overflow that I can trust not to flood my house. Also is that a mag return pump? what is the flow rate?
Thanks

Thanks NM, I think it will turn out to be really nice as it matures.
JLM, no problem, it's really an easy thing to do. You can pick up a 20g for about 20 bucks.
Skirrby, I used 1/2" on my hood on my 110, but when we where getting the wood for her's they only had nice wood in 3/4", plus the 1/2" bows a little in the middle of the 110, but it is longer and wider too. I can easily pic it up by myself, but it is kinda heavy. If you are going to put it on your 55g that's what I would do, just use 1/2" if you can get it in the wood you want, plus it would be cheaper.
TimG, the s.o.s. is a decent overflow, from what I can tell. It is pretty quiet too. The flow rate on the overflow is 600gph. We used a mag7 on which is 700gph. The reason I decided to use it was because the head pressure would pull the mag7 down to about 450-500gph or so. We tested the overflow, and I think it's safe. Anything else?

No prob Carp. Yes I ordered it off of ----. It seems like a really good setup for the price. The only thing is that it comes with catalina bulbs, which aren't the best, but are fine until you need new one's, I would think. The ballast made some noise at first and smelled for awhile (guess burning dust etc.), but is quiet now. Don't worry you won't be dissapointed. We are happy with it.

Hey kpk, I see you got the same mh setup as me. Mine has 2 175 watt bulb, I've had it for several months now. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with it, what bulbs do you suggest? I got the 10k bulbs plus I,m running 2 actinic pc bulbs.
