Thanks
I was just wondering how do we keep our tank temp down, by the end of our light cycle it is hovering around 85.
Any suggestions

How long are the lights on? Maybe shorting the time that the lights are on and turning on a fan in the room may help.

The room is 74, I did leave the hood open in the front of the tank yesterday and the temp stayed below 83, which is a little better.

Aquapods are notorious for having high tank temps. Our 12 gallon hovered around 85-86. I think the hood traps more heat than the fan can blow out. Funny enough is if you ever take your hood apart like I did, they are made for 2 fans but only install 1.
We got the hqi set-up from current lighting systems and the tank temp dropped dramatically. We removed the hood and the lights just have 4 legs they stand on above the aquarium. We evaoprate more water now, but the tank temp is way down. Back to around 80 or so.

Thats actually what i want to know. I've got a 24 aquapod, i never have to top off. So....Did you top off any before taking the hood off? Also, How much do you think you have to top off now.

I have a 24G aquapod and i just recently ditched the hood.....to hot, lighting wasn't intense enough.....Now the temp is alot cooler.....But, i have to top off about 2-3 cups everyday......Not really a big deal.....

With the hood on I had almost no evaporation. If you think about it the water tries to evaporate but gets collected on the glass from the hood and drips back into the tank.
Now that I have the hood off I evaporate about 1 liter of water. But tank temp is a lot cooler and we have better lighting. So its win-win imo.

Someone posted a thread earlier this week I believe about AP's...anyways he took a dremel or something to the fan intake and removed some of the posts to allow more air flow. He claimed it lowered the temp by 2 degrees.
I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help, but it was this week and in the nano board.

I have another question, we have some bumble bee snails that we have had for around 6 months, we added some zoos a couple wks ago, and in the last 3 or 4 nights I have noticed that the snails are staying on top of the zoos. Are these snails reef safe? Some says they are and some say their not.

My bumble bee snails have never hurt my zoos. I have about 5-6 of them in my 12 gal nano. I would just keep and eyes on the zoo's if you notice damage then take the snails out.

thanks so much, I have been watching them and a couple of them never seem to leave the zoos alone, so I am going to take them to my LFS today.
