Make sure you spot feed the star. They tend to starve to death after a couple of weeks or months.

what's the best way to spot feed the star?
Just curious since I have two and never do so, but they've lived for six months or more. Sometimes I dont even see them for a week or so.

Usually if they starve it will be after 9-12 months. If you see them get some food thawed out and place them over the food. If you see a leg pull them out gently and spot feed it. Eventually those 2 stars will clean the sand bed completely and be unable to find any food thus starving.
