That last fish is a Rainford Goby. Maybe not a good idea in a new tank. Everything I read about them says that they need an aged tank since they sift the sand for bacteria and small copods in the rock. I have one in my 20 gallon seems to be doing ok, but I have a large population of pods and the sand is vey lively. Keep a close eye on them and make sure they are doing ok.
Good luck tank looks nice so far

How long did you let your tank cycle before you put the fish in? Because usually once you put live rock, it takes at least 1 to 2 weeks and for some peple a month to fully cycle.
If you add fish before it is cycled, it will have ammonia spike and start killing everything..
By the way, I bought a 14gal biocube too! How do you like the tank? Anything annoying about it? I'm going to be doing modificationsto it.
I will be putting in a 150watt Metal Halide, drilling some holes for an external filter to increase the water turn over rate and adding a new chiller to it, along with a new RO/DI! :) Keep me posted on your tank.

Goodluck with your tank.

Well as I should have known from reading these posts I had a catastrophic disaster. All of my fish died but the Pajama Cardinal and my two shrimp.
The woman at the LFS said that my tank needed to cycle for 1-2 days since I was using LR and LS. So, two days later I checked my H2O and went back and got a TON of fish for my little tank. Well about 3 weeks later things began to die. I did countless water changes but nothing helped. Now my water has been stable for about a week.
Iam still going to wait 1-2 more weeks before I add any my Zoo’s, plants, carol, or any thing else. My semi long term goal is to add a Clown.
I wish I found this forum first.
Today’s Numbers:
Ammonia: 0
Ph: 7.9-8.0 a little low right?
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10 A little high. I did a 10% change after I saw this.
Any more advise would be great. Thanks

keep an eye on your min and max level,i had problems with my bio, your filter cartridge will get full of sand. found out there was a recall and oceanic said you can put a carbon bag to replace the filter or lay it on top of your bio balls.just in case your tank starts spitting out bubbles for hours if your not home (like me).now no problems

What is your SG.
What is your temp. swing like over a 24 hour period.

Thanks guys. Iam not sure of my SG- I just keep it flowting in the "green zone" and my temp is always close to 76-80.
Aqua- did you replace your bio balls? Iam thinking about doing that if I can get a light for the middle chamber.

My rainfords mostly eats algae and sifts aglae out of the sand. It has quite the pot belly from all the algae munching heh. Need to get a small blenny to help him the urchin and the snails/crabs out.
Nice mini tank. A lot of people replace the bioballs in those kind of tanks with liverock rubble. Many that do that say its better that way. And a little nitrate isn't bad <30 is ok for fish/inverts that are not highly sensitive. Some soft corals seem to do better with some nitrate.
Probably because that also means there are more disolved organics for them to feast.
Either way hope your tank does well.

sorry to hear what happend. most lfs stores will tell you just about anything to get more money outta ya. its a hard lesson learnd. but hopefully everything turns out ok. if it helps i know its not as appeling but i got some cheep fake coral just to add some life and color untill i fill with real coral, kinda helped me feel beter and have some color in my tank. maybie it will help you. i know its hard to wait. but the longer you wait and the slower you take things it will come out better in the end. and good luck let us know how it all turns out.
also you will need more lr. and if you plan on having more coral some if not most coral comes on rock but you will still need some place to place your corals. plus the more lr you have the better that your tank maintains its levels. alot of ppl replace there bio balls with lr.also you will find that most fish love having many places to hide and holes to zip in and out of. just remember to leave enough space between the glass and lr to get a magna float around to keep your glass clean for veiwing. but when you add lr it will spike your levels too. thats why when i set my tank up i added 30 lbs (29 gal bio cube) from the start.

I was told not to add too much LR because it will lower the amount of H2O I have??? Do you think I need/ can handle more?? I would love to add some but I am a little gun shy now.
Alos what is the best way to attach the coral to LR?

i dont know what you have currently...but if you look at all the other tanks you will see lots of lr. fish and corals need it. plus...i dont know much about gluing them on but ya gotta have something to glue them too....... also i have always heard one lb per gallon on the lr
24aqua says in anather thread that its 2 lbs per gallon.....

Okay thanks-
I was looking at the LR on this site. It says that it is pre cured. Do you think I will have problems if I add 12 more lbs?
What I have already have is in the pics at the top of this thread. It is just placed on top of sand- not on bottom of tank. I know anther in a long line of mistakes.
Thanks gain for your help.

Watch your water levels like a hawk. Precure it a bit in another container to be safe if possible.

I just got a Chemi-Pure filter, but Iam not sure where to put it. I guess I should put it in the bottem of the Right hand chamber and take out the stock filter??
