i must have mad someone mad .my wife got me a mastiff for easter.he was doing great until yesterday evening .though it was just diarea but.went to the vet for a checkup and came back with possible parvo.so they sent me to an e.r. vet open 24 hrs. he dont look dehydrated and ate this morning so they wanted to retest.well it came back positive again.so now he is staying there with an i.v. they are putting about 15 different things into the little trooper.they asked if i had a guarantee of him and could take him back to the breeder.i said i took on the responsibility of caring for him so now its on me.hope the little guy makes it.they are going to call me in the morning and give me an update.

actually my wife just got off the phone with her.the breeder is upset also.she asked if she could have the vets number to check on him.my wife had to call the vet to give her permission. so she did.the puppy is 7 weeks old.the reason she sold the dog before 8 weeks is because the function where the breeders sell the dogs is only open one weekend a month.timing wise i dont think (nitro) my puppy had parvo when my wife bought him.talking to the doctors even though nitro got his first shot against it being so young it usually takes 3-4 rounds every 2 weeks to really work.he could have gotten it anywhere we put him on the ground.the vets said parvo can stay on the ground for 6 months.as for treatment it is a fast moving virus.he wasnt throwing up or having blood in his stool yet so that is a good thing.from what they are telling me there is no cure it passes throught the system and as it does they help all the affects it has that kills the dog.dehydration is the biggest worry.they feel pretty confident for him.probably cause it casts alot of cash to help him.but i dont care as long as i see him again.just had him for a short time but already love him.so i hope for the best.i will let you know how it is going tomorrow

I know how it is....A pug I had once....it was 12 weeks old when I got it, and weighed 4 lbs....small....Bought him in Dallas...Took him to my vet as soon as we got home and the vet told me to take the dog back he wouldn't live 6 months
He lived 10 years :) Oh he had issues....as most Pugs do.....But as soon as I held him in my hand (LOL) he was mine and I loved him....
Good luck, and I will be looking for your updates

That is horrible news. My girl is a vet tech. I say more power to you. It cost thousands to cure that and it can be cured. Good luck! Parvo can klive in the ground for many years. Your yard may have it from a random dog.

I know you love the little guy already, but a wellness check showed he was sick. If he doesn’t make it the breeder should replace the puppy or give you your money back.
A puppy should not be sold before 10 weeks ideally and 8 weeks at most. If the puppy was only 7 weeks, then the breeder should have taken requests and held the puppy until it was ready to go, another week made all kinds of difference.
I hope he makes it, and lives to old age in your home happy and safe.

We used to breed Beagles, and one little all caught parvo about week 4. We were raising them in the garage, so they weren't on grass, we used soo much clorox to sterilize that garage, that I got high and passed out, around noon and didn't wake up for 24 hours... WE lost half the litter. It was really sad. But the four that made it were some tough cookies. What was funny, was that the dog people that came, snaps those dogs up, because they were like these dogs won't ever get parvo... We ended up selling them for more than we sold any other litter of puppies.
I hope your little dude makes it.

i had a little time before i have to get back to work so i figured an update is due.i talked to the vet a couple hours ago they said nitro did great over night.no vomit or diarrhea.they are trying to get him to eat.they said if he eats today he might be able to go home.they said most people take the vomit and diarrhea as just being sick so i caught it very early.so right now he is doing good.there is a chance he might turn for the bad but they seem happy how he is coming along.also i gave the vet permission for the breeder to talk with them so we'll see where that goes.i will get back this evening with more on him.
thanks for the encouragement from everyone.

If yours had the Parvo it's litter mates likey would too, that breeder had better talk to the vet. We had to put a pup down years ago because of Parvo. The pup only acted sick for a couple days before we took him in and the Vet said it wasn't worth trying to save it at that point. It sounds like your little guy is still in pretty good shape. Nitro, what a great name!

Sorry to hear that. My oldest dog had the mange twice which set me back a lot of dough but he is still here. And he survived a copperhead bite to the face two years ago. He must be tough!

well we called te vet at 5 .they said nitro ate then threw up around 1 o'clock. they said they would try to feed him again around 8.so we just got off the phone with them .nitro ate good.didnt throw up.and his stool is almost without blood now.she said we could pick him up tonight if we wanted.looks like he made it through.we said to keep him overnight just to make sure and wil pick him up in the morning if tonight goes well.
now i wont sleep good cause i want to see him.but learning how nasty this parvo is i just want to make sure nothing would happen tonight if we pick him up.
thanks again for everyone listining .

dont really know .i dont think so once it gets through his system i believe it is gone.now we had to throw out everything he was on here .bleach the room we kept him in (already done)then go outside and find all his poop and clean it up then i am going to spray bleach all over the parts of the front he was on.he could get i again.so going to buy a couple gallons of bleach and a sprayer in the morning.all my other dogs get all their shots so no worries there.
the only way parvo is transfered is through poop.so i will watch him like a hawk for the next couple months untill he gets the 3 other shots for it.i'l let yu know how he is by tomorrow afternoon.
