Very nice! I love Sohals. One day when I own a really big tank, I'd like to have one.

Sorry, it's been a while but my tank is 250 gallons. I actually had to move the sohal into my 120 gallon QT because he just snapped when I added a male blonde naso tang. He just chased him around nipping at his streamers and even started to attack the other fish. It was actually kind of horrifying to watch how the sohal completely changed his attitude. I strongly advise anyone that is considering this fish to wait until you know for sure that it is the last fish you want. I'm going to try and add him back in after a couple of months, hopefully he'll behave.

Welcome to the Sohal's world I'm afraid Bio. I see no chance whatsoever of ever adding another Tang to my tank while Slash (the Sohal) is there. He is selectively bossy too. He has hated my 2 wrasses from day one, yet I have never seen any major aggression toward either of the 2 Triggers, the Coral Beauty, or the Emperor. The really interesting thing is he never chased my Asfur Angel (whom he arrived with) until the Asfur started to chase the new Emperor, I guess he didn't approve of the behavior, now the Asfur is the main target of his bossiness. Mine has put on over an inch in the 2 months I've had him, and is far and away the fastest grower now. He is a great fish and I hope to be able to keep him, he is still far from the biggest fish in the tank, but everyone gives him his space. I think and hope it will be ok, I don't exactly have a tank full of wimps, so they can take it and no one is ever in hiding from him, he chases, they run, they all go about their business after. If he kills anyone or starts to stress anyone, I will not hesitate to trade him.
Yours is really beautiful, a great specimen, hope it works out.
Congrats on starting Med School BTW, quite the grind you're in for as you know.

I really don't know what triggered this from my sohal kjr. I've had him for a few months now and never was he aggressive or bossy in any kind of way.I mean it was like night and day the instant I put the naso tang in. I too have triggers, tangs, and angels that can hold their own but it really looked like he was going to kill the naso and maybe even my blue hippo. I hope this never happens to you.

To be honest based on other peoples Sohal experiences, I planned on him being the only Tang in the system, if there is a Tang that you might expect to be ok, I would have certainly thought Naso.....Just goes to show you never can tell.

thats just unlucky for you. you just got an extremely aggresive sohal. I got a sohal about a month and half ago, a little bigger than yours, and my french angel was totaly destroying the sohal (the sohal would have died in less than a day, the french is the boss). so i put the french in the qt for five days. the sohal got situated in his new tank without the angel. then i put the angel back in and everything went fine. I have my sohal with three tangs, one large naso, one naso about his size, and a blue tang a little bigger. the sohal bithers the nasos at all. only the blue and the sohal fight a tiny bit, but the blue is left dominant over the sohal, and nothing major ever happens. you may want to do the same with the sohal that i did with my french.

Give him time, tell me in a year that he is being bullied by your Blue Tang, not a month and a half, I have a feeling the tide will change very quickly, Sohal's didn't get their reputation on accident.

BTW your 125 gallon tank is a bit too small for a Sohal long term.....Sorry.

Love the blue outline on your Sohal! He is a very handsome fish.
Maybe he is getting frightening because it is getting close to Halloween?!?!
