My new sumpugium is done ...

Finished it the other day and finally got the sand to settle. Added my various Calurpas (originally furnish by Bang Guy). This will be going on my 20g reef. Think a 10g sumpugium is enough for a 20g tank ? :D :D :D
Light is red due to saran wrap keeping the salt creep to a minimum until I get my glass tops.

Looks great! Thanks for posting the pic. Visual aid always helps me to understand how to do things the right way.
Would a 10gal. be too small of a refugium for a 55gal. with 40gal. sump?

I wouldn't think so. If the 10g is only for plants ? I run a 20g sumpugium for my 75g (same as the 10g, just bigger). I would invest in a diamond drill bit and drill 1 hole in one side and attched a power head to it blowing water in the 10g. Then drill a few holes on the other side for water to flow out of the 10g. That's what I was thinking for my 75g, just decided to "overflow" the 20g.
You could always have the 10g fuge off to the side also and flow it in and out of the sump.
Many ways, same mission.

They run opposite the tank. I read (in a post) that the marco (calurpa or other greenery) will raise the pH will doing their photosynthesis stuff. Also, fish just doing fish stuff, raises the pH.
So, if you have the fish awake and the plants "awake" at the same time, pH is up during the day, then down at night...causing stress. So you alternate them hoping to stabilize. I could be wrong, but I think I got that right.

I read something similar to that too. I also read of some people leaving the refugium lights on 24/7. Your method of alternating the lighting makes more sense though.
Thanks again
