My Porcupine went whacko!

Hi All,
Today I moved my porcupine puffer over from my 29 gallon to my 60 gallon because he was getting too big. I should have came to this board to ask what the best way to move him was. Anyway, too late now. I got a big plastic bag and scooped him out with a large net. Of course, he panicked and puffed bigger than a softball, then he got stuck in the net!!! (Scared the crap out of me). I got him out and then tried putting him in the bag and he poked holes in it! I then quickly put him into the other tank. He didn't have any time to get aclimated to temp or salinity. Now I think he is totally stressed out. It even looks like he has ich on his tail now. It's been 3 hours and he appears to be okay now. I turned off the lights and skimmer and added some Kent slime coat hoping to calm him down and relieve the stress. I will be moving in April and I am now worried about moving him again. He's my baby!!!! What is the best way to do this in the future?
Thanks for your help!
