" MY rocks are DEAD"*** HELP

to make it plain and simple set up my tank then chabged my mine about plumbing, so empty out the whole tank and sand then put everything in the extra sump I had , well for what ever its all dead..... So as the story goes on now all my plumbing looks great and its all running except I have 80lbs of DEAD and IM sure the sand is also , but its all clean and the tank looks great EXCEPT>>>> ""DEAD """
SO what to do to get everything going that long bad word CYCLE.
How do I season the rock and sand , and get the cycle going .

get a couple peices of good cured LR and stick em in there, in time everything will grow back.........in time

If you have room in the sump, stick some of the "dead" rock down there to make room for new live stuff, that way you will have less of an algea problem to deal with, and more room for nice rock, plus the stuff you stick in the sump will be re-colonized by bacteria and work as live rock again. Ugly, but who cares, its in the sump. I did this myself. Have about 12 pounds of the stuff down there now. And once you get new rock, that will help cycle the tank, but toss a peeled deli style cocktail shrimp in there to move things along, once you see the ammonia spike real good, take it out and toss it.

If you know anyone with an established tank ask them for a cup or two of live sand to seed your bed. this will help your sand get going a little quicker.
