Sounds like the big "C" word...cyano bacteria. I've helped my daughter battle and win a bout of that in her 55gal tank and also a bout in my 37gal sh tank.
Readjust or add to your water flow, keep adjusting the flow in your tank (direction-wise or by adding) until you see that the cyano is disipating. What is your lighting schedule, and also are you using RO water for changes and top offs? Did you use RO for set up of the tank...not sure that has anything to do with cyano, but it will make a difference with different algaes somewhere down the road.
How long has your 29 been set up?

How long has the tank been set up? If you're at the end of a cycle, the "red" could be simply diatoms that occur. They will disipate on their own, but what doesn't go away will be very nicely taken up by your clean up crew

If this is a cycled and active tank, the scenario will be different in that we may be talking about cyano bacteria.
More information regarding your tank as far as how long it's been set up and what the inhabitants are at this point will greatly help.
