my skimmer not skimming enough

my 46 galon's protein skimmer isnt collecting any protein at all, not even any fuzzy crap in the bottom compartment. the protein skimmer and filter are seperate.

What kind of skimmer is it??? How long has it been setup?? How old is the tank?? And how many fish do you have in the tank???
