My smelly story

I recently had some deaths in the family via 5 astrea snails turning over and then being eaten(partially by some hermits). I let them dry out for a day or two, then I decided to boil them. Then use the shells back in my aquarium
Oh GOD!!!!!!!! It had to be the worst smell I have ever experienced in my life. I thought I was going to puke. I immediatly tossed the pan and the water and the snails.
Word to the wise here. Do not boil snail shells unless you have a strong nose or a good gas mask. <img src="graemlins//dead.gif" border="0" alt="[dead]" />

Why did you feel the need to take them out of the tank? or even to boil them? Normaly we just leave them in the tank and let the crabs have them. Whenever we do take the snail shells out the tank we just sit them outside.
I'm still learning so just wondering...
