My stingray's stinger pic

My ray does this every 6 months or so, she sheds it and grows a new one. I can see them a little easier now on the black sand. I would hate to step on one of these. If you look closely you can see little barbs on the edges, where it is almost serrated like a knife. The cap is off a 20 oz. pop for size reference.

That is so cool. I want a sting ray so bad. Are you gonna go get the other 2 this weekend? When I do some more reading, and get more experience I want one. I hope that it eats out of my hand, that wold be sweet :D !!!

Most all will eat out of your hand. I am going to hold off on the other two. I'll be spending a good 500 on my reef this weekend, so I'll need to hold off until next week.

Ooooohhhh, what are you putting in your reef? I'd like to see some pix. I am going fish shopping this weekend. I am debating what to do with the 180. I am turning the 46 into a reef. Currently it will be my qt for my 180. I took everything out of it and put it in the 180, except for the sand, i left some. I eventually want a ray, so i am working my stock list around the possiblility of someday having a ray. I have been reading like crazy. Now I am going to get some fish.

Anything and everything. Lot of filtration fixes to do this weekend. More plumbing, etc. Plus getting the bike ready for springtime.

my experience is with Freshwater rays but, they shed their spines every so often. You can usually see the new one growing out over the top of the old one before it falls off. The spin can be left behind in a foot or ankle if used to attack. The spins that fall off can still carry some of the bacteria (venom) that cause the infection so be careful! Stingrays are the best, good luck.

Very cool Tony. I nearly stepped on a large southern stingray while fishing some grassflats around Perdido Key, AL several years back. That sucker shot out from under me going about 250mph. Scared me half to death...
