My sump/fuge project

Here are some pics of my sump/fuge project that I am trying. The PVC is the return I am going to try. It goes around the entire top of the tank with 2 outlets on one side that come down and 45 with a flattened piece of PVC to make a nozzle and one on the far opposite side. I then took 2 more ports that will exit at the front of the top of the tank to give some top water movement. IF this acutally works I will be able to remove my electric powerheads and only have my heater in the DT with all filtration in the sump/fuge.

Intriguing with the pvc idea, I'm gonna watch this and see how it works for ya!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Going to have to find the right pump that can get enough flow out of the nozzles to make it worth it and be able to get the right overflow to keep the sump full. I have a pump now that puts out around 300 gal per hour, going to start there first.

What should my fuge have in it? It will have a sand bed and some chateo but what else should be in it to make it effective?

Ok, first problem. The manifold works but my pump does not put out enough pressure to use it to replace the powerheads but if I doubled the size of the pump or even went to a 900 or so gph pump it would work beautifully I think. I just dont have the money to replace the pump right now. I will just use it as a return now and let the water dumb into the top of the tank on 3 sides. SHould give good surface aretion. The good thing about this manifold though is certain joints will not be glued, only pressed together so I can go back and move them when I get a different pump. Only glue the corner elbows and the main tee and the rest of it will hold and not come apart. Not enough pressure with this pump anyway.

Here is my homemade acrylic overflow box minus the syphon tubes that I haven't made yet. I will probably have 2, 1/2" or 3/4" syphon tubes. Almost complete, got the return manifold painted and mounted in the tank. It fit perfectly all around the top of the tank and only the nozzles stick under the water. Hopefully will have the whole system running within the week. Got the sand for the fuge and just need a few small pieces of LR to put in there and some chateo.

Scraping the overflow box I made. Didn't work very well. I will just buy a premade one. I did a trial run of the PVC manifold by running a syphon line into a bucket and pumping back up. Makes a good return. Returns the water on 3 sides of the tank.

Nice, it is coming along good. I would put DSP some live rock and cheto. If you have questions about what to put in it just look at some of the other peoples sump.
Keep up the good work.

in my fuge I have a 4" DSB, chaeto and like 8 pieces of small-medium sized LR.
You can add some snails in if you'd like, I have a couple nerite snails that eat the algae on the glass, a strawberry hermit crab, and another crab (not a hermit) but it is really cool lol...
