My syphon tube is stronger than my pump?

Ok so just like it says. I made a homemade sump out of a 10 gallon tank for my 55 gallon. I made it 3 sections. Problem is that if i just let both ball valves stay open all the way, my syphon puts more water into the sump than the pump can turn out. Im using a quiet one 2200 pump. I have 3/4 pvc pipe as both syphon and pump lines. So can anybody tell me how to fix this? I have an idea of how to do it. Get maybe 1/2 pvc and remake a new syphon line out of that instead of using 3/4, that way the syphon cant put more water into it than the pump takes out. any help is much appreciated.

You have two options for this problem:
1. Get a bigger return pump and make sure to account for head loss
2. Use the ball valves

You need a hang-on overflow box. You are never going to keep a straight siphon in perfect sync with a pump. Eventually either the sump will go dry or the sump will overflow.
An overflow box will send the exact amount to the sump that the pump puts into the aquarium.

I am using the ball valves, but i was under the impression that i shouldn't need to use them. That the syphon should only flow as much as the pump puts back up into my dt. here is a picture of it for a better idea.
