My tang is freaking out...

I bought a tomini tang two weeks ago. I put him in my 10g quarantine tank. I put cardboard on the back and sides of the tank so he wouldn't freak out, and I put a decent sized rock in there for him to hide behind. He was starting to do better, but still freaks out any time I walk up to feed. He had no signs of ich or illness when I got him, but just wanted to treat him in case. My concern is the tank is too small, and it may be stressing him anyways. Everytime I walk by the tank, he is back and forth, back and forth, but obviously has nowhere to go, except behind the rock. Should I put him in my display, or ride it out? And btw...he stopped eating the last two days.

IMO a 10 gal QT is WAYYYYY to small to have a tang in for a couple weeks... im not sure what you should do besides get a bigger QT... what are u feeding him?

Pellets, and mysis. I even had a clip in there with some of those seaweed strips. LFS told me a 10 g would be ok for qt...thats nice...

ha buddy one thing i have learned is that what ever a Local Fish Store (LFS) tells you, you always investigate it. All they wanna do is make the buck off of u. Think about it like this... that tang went from swimming hundreds of yards back and forth to MAYBE a foot back and forth... in a QT you want to make them as comfortable as possible so you can get them use to feeding nori/flakes/mysis or what ever you want to feed them. If you went from in a HUGE house next to your favorite lake to a box in a place where u dont know where u are how would u act?

This is true...so...Should I get another tank for the next couple weeks of qt...or should I put him in my display? Its a good idea to treat them even if they aren't showing signs of illness right?

QTing a fish is always a good idea. 20-50 gallon is a better bet tho... more vertical and horizontal swimming room. another thing is take the rocks out and put some PVC pipe along with some elbows that are all big enough for him to swim through and into if he does not feel safe... Rubber band some nori to small rock because there are no nori clips in the ocean for the tang to eat from. They just graze on the rocks all day... BECOME THE FISH MY SON!! lol just think like him and how you would feed/feel in certain citations.

my LFS ( a very good one) got a tomini on overstock and had in the little display cubes for like a month. i dont think 10g is really all that bad for just a temporary QT holding.

but yes i would do as sir said in getting a qt that is bigger for next time. IMO if you havnt seen anything AND he is feeding, you could toss him in your DT if you feel bad. If you want to play it safe, depending on how long you watched the little guy at the store, maybe another week

Sorry you fell prey to the LFS, dont know much about tangs so i cant help you, but to me it sounds like you did try some smart things. How about putting it in a box with all 4 sides covered.
