My tank got the ich

Ich sucks. My 125 gallon tank got the ich. I removed all fish and put them in my hospital tank that I treated with copper. I don't want to keep my fish in the hospital tank for 50 days while waiting for the ich to die in my main tank. I was thinking about using a uv sterilizer to kill the ich in my main tank but I was told by more then 1 person that a uv sterilizer isn't really effective against ich. I was also told that if I run a uv sterilizer I will also have to get a chiller because the sterilizer will cause my water to heat up too much. Will somebody give me the skinny on this?

I've heard that your display tank should be fishless for a month (30 days).
I'm sorry, but I can't comment on the uv sterilizer

I used to run a UV on a 29 and had no problems with temperature. The bulbs are low wattage. I doubt with a 125 you would have to worry about temperature. The UV and pump, etc., will more likely affect your wallet.

A UV may make things a bit warmer....but no more so than any other added equiptment that you add that has contact with tank water.
Leave your tank fishless for 3 wks, and go ahead and run the UV if your tank is FO. If it is a reef then UV really isn't appropriate as it is indiscriminate in what it kills----both the good, the bad and the ugly.
