I have a 120 gal. Tank. I just started it up yesterday with the first few mollies, to help the cycling. I have crushed coral and a few plastic plants and and slowly getting more things for the fish to hide in. When I start to get fish which fish would you reccommened? I've already researched many fish I like but i'd like your oppion.!

I would get a 100 lb. LIVE ROCK FISH.......
get anything fake out of the tank.
get LIVE ROCK it will cost you about $200 for 50lb of FIJI.
and get 50lb of base rock for about $70.
it will be the best money you will spend on your tank.

I agree with Oyam1. saltwater tanks are best kept with natural settings. Fake plants and the like, don't look good in any aquarium in my opinion. Go with some live rock and base rock. You will be more pleased with it. As for fish: A Yellow tang is an easy fish to care for and is awesome in color. Also clownfish ocellaris or true percula, any gobies, try to stay away from damsels. Good luck with your tank! :)

Ok thanks I was thinking about live rock and base rock, but wasn't too sure! I think I'll stick with the plastic plants though, I already have them and they look fine, the mollies seem to love it!

ok thanks, I added the silver mollies because their a great way to start cycling your tank, although their fresh water, they can also become saltwater! Mine did!

Mollies can acclimate to saltwater.
I personally would remove the mollies, and add at least a miz of 100 lbs. of LR, and base rock. Adding uncured LR will start the cycle process for you. The LR woll also aid in the biological filtration of the tank.

I'm not to sure of live rock though, I like the idea, but i'm not made of money. Would the live rock really help or is it just a necessity? I'm planing on getting 2 clown, blue hippo tang, yellow tang, valentini puffer, royal gramma, red sea banner fish, would the live rock have any impact on these fish? Or would the fish do anything to the live rock, I definatly want a hiding space for them!

base rock is un-live rock.
it was LR but is sold dry or wet with little to no coralin grouth. its cheep less than $1.50lb
LR can get for $4-5lb shipped to you from lots of places.
tangs need lots of room and may not take will to eachother in one tank.

ask others for better info on tangs

base rock is just plain rock meant to go in an aquarium, it doesnt have anything live on it, but if you put base rock under some live rock it will become live with time, and save money because base rock is considerably cheaper. supposedly two tangs in even that big of a tank might have problems because they require tons of space, a blue tang can get up to 12" and are very fast swimmers, and might not have enough room to be comfortable with another tang.

well that also anwsers many questions, I've researched all the other fish, but not the tangs (I don't Know why I didn't) It also makes tons of space for more, nicer, fish! So I could buy like a few lbs. of live rock and place more base rock around it and get about the same results...

you got a 120
youll need 150 of LR
50%LR 50%BR would be ok
you may get away with 50lb LR and 100BR.
look on the net for deals.
i have a 72gl with 80LR in it now
i am ordering 30lb of LALO liverock tonight for $120 delivered.
that will give me 110lb total for now.
i still plan on 30lb more of some branching TONGA as $$ allows
you will come to love LR
LR ROX
lol

do i have to get all the live rock at once? Or could I have some fish after I get the live rock of course, And then add more or should I have all the rock before i add the fish?

try and get 1/2 the rock in
as you add rock later it makes changes to the environment
and youll get blooms etc.
but anything is better than nothing
