My tube won't fit!!

I am trying very unsucessfully to get this dang built-in overflow box set up. Right now, I have a hanging one, but I really, really want to use the built-in. The problem....either the fittings are too big for the tubing, OR the tube fittings won't fit securely into the bulkhead. I have a "if I do this, then I can't do that". Help:help:
What can I do????
I have a 55gal, and I believe the hole sizes are 1" and a 3/4".
