My tank has what I thought was a green hair algea problem. But now I'm wondering if that is what this is. The pics of green hair algea I've seen aren't what's taking over my tank. The stuff in my tank is short and brillo pad like. Very green, and attaches to the lr in patches. I keep hearing people say, "use a toothbrush", but this stuff just laughs at toothbrushes. I have to use pliers to pull the stuff of my rock!!
Anyone have any idea what this is, and if so, how to treat it?
thanks...grouch

Get a phosphate test and test for phosphates if you have phosphates in your tank it is probably a form of hair algea

Do a search on yahoo for Bryopsis. This stuff is pretty tough. It usually appears when you have excess nutrients/phosphates. Some phosphate test kits are often notably unreliable so even if your test kit says that you have no phosphates often you still do.
