might be a pistol shrimp. search the tank after dark with a flash light and see if you can spot him. they also make shrimp traps, etc. later
oh yeah, have you had any missing livestock?

Could be a pistol shrimp.
I remember SammyStingray posting a pretty good description of the clicking/popping sounds made by both the pistol and mantis, but that was some time back.

I had the same problem with the clicking noise and it was a pistol shrimp. I got the little guy out and now there is piece and quit in the tank. Look for tunnels going under the rock, thats how I found were mine was hiding.

Do you have turbo snails? I found out they can make this sound when they hit the glass with their shell when they're trying to get rid of anything irritating and shaking their shell.

Guys ive looked everywhere! There are no tunnels and no suspicious holes in the rocks or under them. I recently rearranged the rocks and got rid of my CC and put in Live Sand.
NOTHING! NADA! ZIPO!!
Could it be a type of clam or scalop on the live rock, opening and closing quickly causing the clicking sounds?? The reason i ask is because ive had a couple on my rock and when i gave a couple of rocks to my friend he started now hearing clicking sounds in his tank as well.
Has anyone experiend this before??!

Any chance you have any triggers? They can sometimes "pop" when they are up near the top of the tank. I know my niger will come to the top and "pop". It's a funky sound!

Im with Mithrax on this one. I thought I might have a pistol or a mantis and later found that when one snail onto another and they travel to a point where there is stronger current it will cause the snails shells to lightly tap the glass and it sounds alot like a mantis. Five clicks...stop......four clicks....stop then nothing then three clicks...stop. Check and see if you have some snails in a strong current area before tearing down all your rockwork. they will hold on with their foot but the current will blow their shell around.
