I have had my saltwater reef tank for about 2-3 months now. I have purchased snails, hermits, fish and polyps. I have recently noticed these white 'things' are starting to appear on one of my rocks. I'm not sure what they are, i have one green ricordea mushroom polyp and an umbrella mushroom polyp. could the polyps be multipling?? There should be 4 pics, i tried to take the best pics i could. They are the whit things that are hanging from the rock, there are about 6 of them on the rock. If you look closely you will notice on one of them that there is a hole, probably a mouth?? ((I'm not sure)) I would greatly apriciate if anyone could help me figure out what they are :notsure: :help:

there sponges, I had the same things in my tank when it was started, they look like the head of a q-tip. the dont stay long. I think there part of the normal cycle of a new tank, they disappear after a while, my tanks been up 2 years, had sponges for the first few months and havent seen any since. was told at the time its a good sign that the natural system is in balance in your tank.

Thank you for letting me know that, it makes me feel safe:) I also have some 'worms' i don't know if thats a bad thing either...i would think it is...but let me know what you think. The 'worms' hide in the same rock that the sponge things started poping up on.
thanx to everyone

They look like q tip sponges to me, which are harmless filter feeders. As for the worms, check out the pics in the hitchiker thread in the archives.
