it's a compact florecent 105w its like 2 day and 2 actinic in one bulb. thats why they call it a quad (four)

well i think its 3.75w per gallon with the quad and mh is 5w per gallon or maybe a lil more???? the only concern i would have with the mh is the heat of a closed lid top. i would assume it would get quite hot. the quad went up maybe 1* or so, not bad. but you will have to probley need a chiller with mh. they have free stands with the quad and the mh but the quad is $150 cheaper. did you find the dr's site?

I have been following your thread because we have the same tanks and I think your tank looks awsome with the rose bubble tip anemone and the clowns, even though you broke the can't have anemone rule for a tank under a year old, only kidding, no such thing. But who is that a picture of, please tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually the tanks only 2.5-3 weeks old but CYCLED. i wanted to do a lil experment with the anemone proving that you can have one before the 6 month rule. as far as the pic it me 2years ago at hollween party. my g-pa made that mask many many moons ago.

black06ss: what kinda coral did you want to have in you tank? if you want sps, clams, anemone that knida thing id say go with the mh,but remember your going to have a hott tank. otherwise you could get the quad and buy a cheap odyssea fixture like i did and still save $50 on the hqi nanocube. lmk what ya decide ill e-mail the site i got the mh/t5 combo light from.and the lights only $99 so its a good deal.

I'm still so new idk what i want. lol I read The Marine Reef Aquarium, cover to cover. Spanko told me to get the Nano Reef handbook but they didnt have it at Barnes and Noble. I do know i prefer soft corals, and yes i found the dr's site. I was comparing the different 28g jbj nano tanks. Yeah the Quad is cheaper but couldnt find gpm for its pumps. If i remember correctly the HQI is at 290gpm. Oh idk and of course i couldnt find there i found the comparison between all the different nanos.

I know this not a quad, but to address the heat issue. I quickly learned that I needed a chiller secondary to the closed lid and mh. I got a west coast 1/15 chiller and have been very happy with it. My tank is always between 76 and 78. If I had to do over again I would not get the JBJ with the hood as not only does it cause excessive, it was very hard to get a skimmer that worked with the tank. The skimmer that comes with the tank is junk. I now have a CPR HOB medium refugium with a Tunze 9002 skimmer, that is great, that I was able to add to the tank without modifications.

im wanting as well to do a refugium, and i was lookin more along the lines of a 10 gallon underneath refugium but i was tryin to look for a easy way to do with without having to drill or buy a ugly overflow. i might have to go the same route as u and buy a HOB fuge
