Nano Lighting committed suicide!

Ok, so I was adding a refigium for my nano in the second chamber. I had a submersible pond light which was a small halongen. While putting it in, randomly the lights for my hood went out and the transformer (type for JBJ 36 Watt PC lighting) starting smoking. I think the submersible light wasn't so submersible anymore and shorted (while staying lit the whole time) and then fond the weakest link in the system by going back through my surge protector and out into the transformer. Luckily my hands weren't in the tank at the time so it didn't ground through my aquarium (or me for that matter
).
So I yanked out the surge protector cord and the tank was effectivley dead for a few minutes. Uncluttered all the cords and got the pumps and heater plugged back in. The surge is still fine. Then stole my 18 W jbj lighting from my freshwater guys and made a new lid. (all in a matter of about 20 minutes since the gf was coming over) This happened last night at 7 pm (wasn't sure how she'd understand me canceling plans for my fish tank!)
So now my question is, has anyone ever replaced the nano jbj transformer, is it typically covered in warranty? My tanks only 2 months old.
Or should I use this oppurtunity to upgrade to MH or a sun pod. (Keep in mind I'd have to steal from my savings since works slow!)
Any suppport/sympathy <--- haha, my friends don't understand. Would be great

I'd contact JBJ and see if you can't get it replaced and how long it will take.
The light will be okay temporarily.
