nano question

I just wanted to know why you guys chose nano tanks over a bigger tank say a 55 gallon? Was it because of cash, time, space or other. Im looking into buying some sort of tank and I like the nano cubes because looking at pictures you can make beautiful rock formations along with corals, zoos, mushrooms etc.. and have 2 fish and a cleaning crew. On the other hand a larger tank lighting is so much money I would only be able to have a fish and live rock tank, I wouldnt be able to support corals.
So I just want to know what you guys think of the nanos vs larger tanks, help is appreciated :happyfish

Nanos are more of a challenge. A lot, but not all, people start with a larger tank & then get into nanos. If you have a little experience it will help with a nano. If you belong to a local club and can trade frags the cost of a nano and a 55 can be close. They are kind of like a bonsai tree I suppose.

I actually started out with a 20gal but had to downsize because I moved into an apartment. That and I really have no money being a college student so the less money to fill up my tank the better.

my first tank was a 15 gallon. then i went to a 20 gallon. i had no choice cause there was no room in the house. and my extra tanks are huge like a 40 gallon, and two 100 gallons. so i had to use a small tank.

i like them because they're a complete setup (fans, lights, p.o.s pump, filtration system). what would take you $3000 to setup a large tank, $500 would make a complete tank for a nano :D I have a 175g but i want something small and cheap i can toy with

500 only? i already used 300 and i have barely anything in my tank. i have 15 lbs of LR, 20 lbs LS, heater, tester, dechlorinizer, maroon, firefish goby, before i had this was angler, sailfin, firefish goby, about 15 damsels, and thats about it.

i have to agree with italianwjt and his reply about then being complete - or almost complete .i also have a 175 ( fish only ) tank and wanted to get into reef keeping also.
so - size and space were factors and i found so far the jbj 12 gallon deluxe tank is very superior to whats out there now - as far as a complete set up that is .......
personally - i think i would have preferred the 24 gallon tank - but thats just me ...he he ..
bigger - better - faster - louder ....lol
for your money - you can't go wromg with the jbj .........
as far as italianwjt's comment on the pump being a p.o.s. ...hhmmmmmm i disagree -i does work well - but there's always room for improvement with any tank or filter syatem .
jbj ............thanks for making it possible to do modifications !!!!!!!!!!!!
some people have systems that aren't so lucky .

For me it is a time issue. I would love to have a 100+ gallon tank, but don't have the time to maintain something of that size. My 4 kids and working 60 hours a week limits me considerably!!

$500.00 complete?!? I have about $1,500.00 into my nano and I'm not even close to where I would like to be.
