Naso Tang with HLLE

My Naso Tang has shown signs of HLLE such as a small line on each side and shrunken abdomen. I just measured my Nitrites and they were .3 mg/l and the ammonia was at .25. I am doing a water change now. I have been having trouble feeding the tang as well. He goes after the food but spits it out. I have been feeding him brine shrimp and spirulina (the frozen kind). Any ideas on how I can fatten him up and stop the HLLE?

Dear hobbyist,HLLE is due to a vitamin insufficiency .Your Tang will need more vitamin enriched foods within its diet. In order to get it to eat, put some marine garlic or entice onto its food. My Blond Naso likes Marine -A pellets ,so I put either Vita- Chem, or Zoe (Vitamins in liquid form) onto its food, this will prevent your fish from getting HLLE,and maintaining full coloration within your aquarium. Also ,check your ph .Tangs must have the correct ph between 8.0 - 8.4. by the way,be sure to feed your tang sea weed as often as possible, tangs are herbivores, although they'll eat brine shrimp, and other meaty items, their primary diet should consist of greens like formula 2,spiralina ,carlapa ,and sea weed . HLLE will go away in time if your tang has the proper diet and water conditions. Enjoy the hobby
