GG,
Since we feed our fishes various chunks of meaty foods (SW fish flesh, shrimp, squid, scallops, etc.), the carrion feeders (Nassies, hermits) get a piece of whatever we're feeding out at the time. The hermits can actually grab small pieces of food off a stealth stick, but I generally hold a piece of food for the snails until they begin to engulf it with their foot. Once they grab it, you can let go.

I got home yesterday from work to see my week old sally lightfoot dead in the sand and covered by my Nass snails and hermits (and one of my peppermint shrimps was holding one of his legs which is how i noticed). It was my first Sally, so i was super excited to get him, I've always had emerald crabs before. I was so confused because my crab from what I could see was perfectly healthy. It was so active and playful for the full week i had it. When i would target feed my corals it would come out and i would let it eat off the end of the feeder tube. It would also play everytime i put my finger on the outside of the glass, it would charge at my finger then back off over and over. He was active all over the tank, on the rocks, on the glass. He did have a spot he liked to hang out on upside down on the rocks when he wasn't active. When I found him covered in snails and hermits yesterday he was in the sand almost directly under where he liked to hang out in, and a small peppermint shrimp had one of its legs in the exact spot where he hung out.. It was just as active the night before yesterday so i was shocked to see it dead :( Makes me sad. But I started thinking about it, "I wondered if my Nass snails attacked it" which brought me here. I have quite a few Nass Snails, two of them I have had since I've had my tank so over 2 years and they are fairly large, I'd say about 1.25". I have seen them attack my astrea snails.

Can you post a picture of the snails you have? Your description does not describe a Nassarius vibex Snail.

This is a Nassarius vibex. These are the type of Nassarius snails that do not eat healthy flesh. Notice the squat shape, heavy shell sculpting, and small slit connecting the foot to the siphon.

This is a similar Whelk that will hunt down and kill its food.

The snails in the pictures you found do appear to be of the Nassarius Genus but they are not Nassarius vibex which is the only species you should consider non-predatory.

Ahh.....gotcha. Good to know. Now i want to take those to monsters out so i can enjoy my crabs again. And honestly now that i think about it I think they ate my Segmented Tailfin Blenny (that looked exactly like the pic) I had barely 2 weeks. I noticed a couple of hermits finishing off what was left of his carcass the same day I added the new crab last week. He was definitely healthy and active but was an easy target always sitting on the sand bed.
