Has anyone bought this from SWF.com ?Do you need to use the whole 40 lbs right away or does it have a shelf life? Its going to take me a few water changes to vac the CC out of my tank and I was going to do a little at a time.It cost 70 bucks for 40 lbs, which is better than 25 for 10 lbs at *****.Thanks

The sand you are referring to will have a shelf life...do not know what it is, but it will.
It would probably be benificial for you to look it up on the internet prior to purchasing it so as you know exactly what it is you are getting.
Just curious...why do you not go with the FL live sand? It is supposed to have all the worms and creepy crawlies in it...the other is simply sand with nitrifying bacteria cultures.

It has a shelf life of 12 months, usually has a expiration date on it, but once you open it you must use it all.

Dreves, the reason I dont go with the live sand is because of the cost.I have about 80 lbs of live rock in there now so I dont think I need it.

it's a very good product but it is only Bio-Active in that it has the beneficial bacteria but none of the critters that true live sand has. If you buy it use it all at once as it will have a shelf life. If you have LR in the tank you do not really need any live sand as the dry sand you use will become "Live" with bacteria from the LR in time. and the LR will also provide most of the sand bed fauna you will want although if you want to jump start the process you can order sand bed fauna on various web sites.

Hondo drop me an email of a good site that has sand bed fauna @ disasterchick@charter.net
I put in a deep sand bed recently and I have bristle worms and things like that but not as many critters as i think it should have.
thanks!
