Nature's Ocean Sand?

Nature's Ocean sand claims that you don't need to cycle your tank when you add their sand,I'm skeptical. Has anyone used their sand? I was thinking of buying a bag or two and mix it with aragonite sand and test it for a week or two. Thanks guys!

hi,
I have used natures ocean sand. I love it. Its bright white with flecks of pink. I have used this is 3 tanks. over the past 5 years.
HOWEVER, I do not buy into the "instant cycle" they claim to have.
heres my experience...I used natures ocean to "instant cycle" my tank. Then i added a few small fish, one week later...ammonia through the roof 8.0+ all fish die
your right to be skeptical. its too good to be true.
besides if you read the back fine print of the package...
it states that you should properly cycle your tank one month before adding fish...
so there it is.
personaly i love the way it looks, to save $ use dry sand as a "base" and top dress with natures ocean.
if its the "instant cycle" your looking for, its a NO GO.

The cycling that they are taking about is with the sand itself...
If you add sand to your tank... there is a cycle or amount of time that it take for the sand to become alive. When adding dead sand to a tank there can be a spike within the tank.
Also - the bad states that you need to use only there sand to make it cycle free.
So adding a couple of bags is not going to make much of a difference if any.
As for the adding fish part... any time you add additional bio-load to a tank, there will be a cycle while everything rebalances itself out. There is no way to get around this...

another thing,
natures ocean dosnt contain any critters.
if you use this you may want to "seed" with a few puonds of live sand from your LFS. this will help your sand bed do its job.
