lights off = 7.8-7.9
after lights on for 8 hrs = 8.2

I don't see a real problem if your PH reaches 8.2 during the day

but it barely makes it to 8.2. It may even linger around 8.1. I have inverts, and don't they prefer high ph?

I don't see any problem either, its not broke so don't fix it.

I agree that those values for ph are normal. Additionally, bang has posted they also are very close to ocean ph values.
My recomendation is to not fix what is not broke. My daytime ph rose to 8.2-8.4 after I added plant life. But daytime ph had fallen to 7.4 an lower before that. So as long as your ph stays at your current values there is nothing to worry about.
