I've searched the boards and have found many opinions on this topic, but haven't found a consensus. Looking for suggestions on a skimmer for a 180g reef...looking at a total water volume of 300 gallons, or so. Would like to stay below $500, but don't want to sacrifice performance.
Thoughts?

if you can afford it get the msx 2s cone, but they are $720
excellent advice.... I have the msx 250 on a total system volume of around 210 gallons and it does a great job. For $379 shipped, you can't touch it. That being said, if I had the dollars I would get the MSX 2S cone in a heartbeat.

I've heard several recommend the MSX 250, so probably leaning in that direction. Looked online and found the 2s cone priced at over $700...
You think the cone is worth twice the cost of the 250?

the 2s is new, so with it comes the high price tag. Bang for the buck, no it isnt worth it, but it is worth it compared to other $700 skimmers.
bang for the buck, nothing comes close to the MSX 250.

Thanks....guess I'll need the ASM G-4?
It is your money, but the ASM g 4 is no where close to the MSX 250. The body on the g4 is 8" compared to 10 on the msx. The sedra 5000 doesn't come close to the air pull of 1 Sicce , much less the two with the msx. And the build of the MSX is alot better quality.....not to mention,,,,the msx is cheaper too. Like I said, it is your money, but for my money the MSX is a no brainer.
