1st here are my levels Im kinda excited I found someone moving and there selling all there stuff. Tons of corals. Zoans lots of Soft corals for cheap. I have nothing in there but live rock and some brissle worms. My tank has been running for like 5 or 6 weeks.
Levels
PH 8.2
Nitrates 10 if that
calcium 400
alkaninity 0
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
SG my refractometer said like 1.022 I need to raise that the LFS said it was 1.020 using a Hydrometer I still need to raise that. Another question to raise that to I make a strong Batch like 1.027? Am I rushing this or could I pull this off.
thanks

What's in the tank, what did you use for cycling, what did you use for substrate, what kind of salt are you using, has your live rock been in there the whole time, have you had a "die-off" period yet where your water just STINKS, have you been doing water changes to bring down the nitrates. what kind of filtration are you running, what kind of lighting are you running, what color is the live rock, are you noticing any growth on the live rock?

The LR I am thinking really never had a big die off It came from a friends tank and was kept in SW with a heater and a powerhead till My sg was good. The color of my live rock is a light purple some brown,There is some almost a bright green alge I guess growing on the rock. I have a high powered T5 lighting system with moon lights. I have a Aqua Reef protein Skimmer. I am going to buy some more salt tomm but there is Instant ocean in there now. I also have a sump system and 2 good size Power heads in the tank. A lot of this stuff was given to me so, About 2 weeks ago I did a 40% water change. I hope that helps

What is in the sump? Are you running bio-balls or Macroalgae. The brown on the rock may not be good. It may be Chicken Liver Sponges. They are extremely aggressive and will grow right over corals. Plus they are there for a reason (especially if they are growing), they feed off of dissolved organics.

Ok, you want to set up your sump for macroalgae most likely. Your Local Fish Store (LFS) might have some that they can sell you by the bag. But you want water to come from the tank, flow over one wall, into the chamber with macroalgae and usually a deeper sand bed in it. This will pull out a good deal of chemicals that you DO NOT want in your tank. Then it should flow into a third chamber where the protein skimmer is (unless it hangs on the tank) and be pumped back to the tank. YOU DO NOT want sand and macroalgae getting into the first or last chamber, ONLY the middle one. This should take about a day to set up. Then, I have never heard of an Aqua Reef protein skimmer, do you mean AquaC protein skimmer? If so, you want that running too.
Keep in mind that if you are going to want to add clams or tunicates or anything that dissolve filter feeds off of nitrates and phosphates or ammonia, you will probably want to allow a LITTLE bit to get in to your system for them to survive off of. Looking at those brown spots a bit closer, they look like Diatoms almost. Look for picture of Diatoms on the net and try to compare pictures. If it is Diatoms, this usually means that you are coming to the end of your cycle. You just need something to take care of that extra bit of nitrates that are in your tank and you should be good. AND PLEASE keep your tank out of any area where sunlight can hit it.
The sump should look sort of like this [A]___B___[C] A. First chamber where water comes from the tank, water flows over that wall into B the second chamber, that is where the macroalgae and deeper sand bed is and then over the wall into C, the third chamber where the skimmer is and where it gets returned to the tank. I just have no idea what kind of skimmer you have so am going off of what MIGHT work. You can cut grooves in plastic if it isn't already there or use Nylon screen to seperate the chambers usually.
If you are going to purchase corals though, please try to make sure that you have the test kits and additives around to maintain their health. Salifert makes really good calcium and alkalinity test kist (at least I have had really good luck with them) and you want to make sure that you maintain your calcium and alkalinity where it should be.

So if you were me would u buy some of the corals and see what happens For frags they are like 3 bucks I want to see them grow.
The big ones are like 10.
Thanks

I would say as long as you get the other stuff in order first. Chamber A should be where the water gets pumped in to the sump from the display tank. Then it overflows into chamber B where the macroalgae and deeper sand bed are, then it overflow into chamber C where it gets skimmed and pumped back to the tank. I myself have had to many issues with a sump shutting down or backing up. I keep my heater in my display tanks ALL the time at lower levels to make sure if the sump overflows and half the water gets drained from the display tank, the heater should still fully be submerged and workable without creating any sort of hazard.
