NEED ADVICE REALLY FAST!!!!!!!!!!

OK, i have a 40 gallon breeder tank with a 35 gallon sump. it has a amiracle overflow box on the back. i just switched my small underpowered mag 2 to a mag 7 pump for the return. it has 1 inch piping for the drain, and half inch piping for the return. now for my question. will the overflow be able to keep up with the new return flow??? this sucker is really pumping fast!!! <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />

i don't know what that poll stuff is all about since i did not do that!! please disregaurd that, it must be some sort of glitch in the system.

The poll stuff is my fault - kindly disregard.
I deleted a poll no one seemed interested in, and this part was left. Not sure why - sorry lore.
Now - you've almost quadrupled your flowrate going from the Mag 2 to the Mag 7.
Mag 2 at 4' head = 125gph
Mag 7 at 4' head = 480gph
I don't have any info on the amiracle overflow rated capacity. Do you by chance ???
1 inch piping from the overflow to the sump should handle it - if the siphon tube and overflow can. That's the trick here.
If not
You'll have to install a pvc ball valve or globe valve on the piping between the pump and the return spray bar, and throttle back on the flowrate
Or
Get a higher rated overflow - more $$$
Or
Get a smaller pump - again more $$$ and :(
I'd go for the $4.00 ball valve.

well,no more need to worry! i just got back from the lfs and returned it for a mag 5. my freind there is the store manager, so i had no problems taking it back. thanks alot though for the advice! i appreiciate it! :D

My mag 12 is throttled back and I use the amirical overflow. I even modified the overflow to increase flow and it made little difference. A double overflow could probably keep up but I doubt a single would.
IMO the mag 7 if it was flowing 480 gph would have been fine. Only more time would tell.

yup I heard alot of ppl came up with the same idea= junk it. Not everyone but quite a few. i never had a mag7 but heard stories. But IMO I would know the rating of the oveflow box and buy a pump equal to it. They probally rate them more like al equipment but....... i wonder one person used a mag12 one said mag 7 was alot?To much ? or more than what he had? Dunno know if there different ones but I'm glad the new pump works for the poster just I would know the rating next time. JMO
