Need advice

I just moved my stand in for one of my 240 gallon tanks. This tank has 1 corner overflow, but it only has one hole drilled in it. I drilled a whole in the stand to hookup the overflow to the bottom of the tank. Right underneath this I have a 55 gallon sump. I'm going to use an external pump for the return line. I have a couple of questions before I start this. Should I install a ball valve on the return line? Also I was thinking of installing a T connector with a valve on it to use for doing water changes. I could hookup a hose, run it outside, and open the valve. Does this sound like a good idea? Also I can't figure out a good way to run the return line without having to do at least 1 45 degree elbow. Space is tight between the back of the tank and the wall, and I have to come in from the top of the tank with the return line. Any suggestions or other ideas would be appreciated.

Definatly put a valve on the return line. I've got them on my over flows also just in case I want to control turnover a little more on one side of the tank or the other.
The t is good to have as it allows for furture use (like a refugium) or H2O changes. It can also be used as a bypass if your overflow can't handle the pump.
A 45 is really ok to use. It's the 90 that really kills the flow.
