need any chemicals in new reef tank?

I am setting up my 125 gal reef tank (please see my sig. below) Do I need any chemicals in it to operate correctly? Everything is reading ok by testing. How do I make my live rock purple?

To get coraline algea (purple rocks)you need to have calcium and the proper alk levels. You should be checking these levels allready as you are putting together a reef tank.
Looks like a good set-up. I would like to see a pic of your lights if you can get them on the web.

I recommend getting rid of all pads and filter media from the canister before it turns into a nitrate factory.

man is this an expensive hobby. Just got back from the pet shop and spent $350 on 3 SMALL corals and a bunch of chemicals and testers. a few crabs and a starfish all for the sand to be mixed up.
burn, please explain what you mean that I should remove from my filter to avoid nitrates.
thanks!

I use Mark Weiss Reef Vital DNA to add more coraline algae to my rock and it works great. Have been using it for about 2 years.

You should try to get your corals aquacultured, in other words raised in an aquarium, there alott hardier there is one place I ordered 12 and they sent me 16 because the messed up my order(did not ship on day specified) My corals are doing great and I am new to reef tanks. All polyps are extending to the sky. I am not sure whether i can put urls on this site so if your interested just say so and I can email you url. Also might save you some money. There about $11.00 a piece plus shipping.
