My hermits are growing up. I need even bigger shells now that they taken all the biggest ones in there. anybody know where to buy decent sized ones? (btw - I got the ones from this site but they are much too small)
I heard you could purchase them at a crafts store but I want to make sure this is a good idea first.
Thanks!

You should be able to get them from craft stores or even the craft section of walmart for under $3. Just make sure they aren't painted or treated with anything that could be harmful to your tank. The "net bag" I got from walmart was made by US Shell Inc. and I called their customer service to make sure they hadn't been treated with anything and they aren't. Just boil them for 5 minutes and put them in the tank.

I had bought a thing of shells from walmarts craft department. they were small but it was for a craft. I used what i needed and after treating them with some hot water over nite i put them in the salt tank and hermit crab babies are using them just fine

You can also buy empty shells from SWF. Many pet stores will also have them. My LFS used to give them away, but of course now they are charging.

Good call on using little shells found at the beach. I did that too, totally forgot until now. Of course, if you don't live close to the beach it isn't very practical. SWF charges 25cents? Wow. At my LFS I can by the shell with the hermit crab in it for 50cents.
