well,im in the second full week of my cycle for my 46 gallom tank with about 30 pounds of live sand and about 15 pounds of live rock with 3 damsels--my problem is my sand is getting a brown substance on it,and was instructed to just net it up and it would go away--well 2 days and it is back but now seems to be discoloring my rock as well--whats up guys and is there need to be alarmed??thnks alot

sounds like the dreaded evil diatoms, tehy are no good, but not that bad either, LOL, they are part of your tanks maturing and cycling process, jsut bear with it and hang in there, it will get better, if you are over feeding, this may contribute some, as well

well, ifeed small amounts 2x a day, but others only feed once, the main thing is not to over do it, feed just enough, so that they are not leaving any, once they slow down, stop, don't wait until they stop
