Need help deciding to plunge or wait

Okay I'm at a cross-road. I know for sure I want to get a certain sites overflow box kit that requires drilling but the problem is money (as usual in this hobby).
So my problem is whether I should wait til I get my sump completed and overflow installed (which will be like three months), or should I get the aquaclear 70 and just do the sump stuff later?
Is it too much work to drill a tank that has fish in it already? Is it even safe for them?

heres how i see it... this hobby is fully of waiting. if you cant handled the wait, find something else to do. it would be in your best interest to save up the money and do it right the first time than risk stressing the fish, cracking your tank full of live stock or not doing it at all later.
if i can guess the company your thinking about getting the overflow kit from, gholes, then its worth the wait. im very happy with mine.

A tank that is partially full of water can be drilled (above the waterline).
But if cements and stuff must be used to mount the overflow box in place, they cannot be used below the waterline.
Also, a tank that has water in it will have stress on it's glass, which increases the likelihood of cracking. It can be done, it has been done, but to me, it's unnecessarily risky when you know it's going to have to be done at some point.

Ya, mkzimms thats the company. Okay I'll just be patient then *SIGH*

I'll focus my energy on my 5 gallon then until then. There is probably a lesson in this that the Big Guy is teaching me.

heres the deal... you have the 5 gal running so start taking what you have growing in there and fragging and getting everything ready for the move. when i got my first 12g aquapod for my birthday i knew that i would someday want a larger tank. so i just looked at it as a holding place for what i would want in my new tank later on. for two years i just fragged, traded, bought interesting pieces of rock and coral, etc so when the new tank came, i would be ready to go.
the gholes overflow kits are amazing, you'll like it. what model are you looking at and what is the size of your tank? i spent a lot of time talking to scott at gholes on the phone pre and post purchase. sometimes not even talking about eh product, just BSing. they have some of the best customer service ive ever had the pleasure of dealing with. if you have any questions about their stuff just ask away.
