Need Help! I think I have fungus in main tank!

I've had my tank running for about 8 months now. For 6 months the only fish in the tank was my tomato clown. Two months ago I added a lawnmower blenny to my tank. Both of these fish were never QT'ed. Everything was going great no diseases or nothing. The tomato clown is truly stunning, its not the average tomato youll see in your LFS(i wish i had a pic.)aboutt a month ago I went out and got a hospital tank since I planned on adding another fish later on. So a month ago I got a yellow tailed damsel, which was kept in the hospital tank for a month under copper treatment(he had a little ick when I got him.) After the month was up, he looked perfectly healthy so I put him in my main/nano tank. On day 4 of adding the damsel to the tank, it comes down with what looks like some sort of white junk on his lip. Day 5, now it looks like some sort of tail rot also(no other fish are showing signs of disease at this point.) Day 7, Clown appears to be showing the starting stages of this so called tail rot. So I put all of my fish into the Hospital tank for treatment(How will I keep my lawnmower alive in the QT?!?!?) All I have right now is copper, which I don't know if this will help my problem at all. With ick, I know that you can leave the main tank fishless for 30-40 days and the ick will die off due to no host. Is it the same for other diseases? Can I leave the main tank fishless and let the disease die off, or am I screwed? Plz help with this... Any input would be great!

Have you tested the water quality? I would move the fish to your QT tank and try an anibiotic for bacteria infections such as saltwater maracyn. HTH

Ok thanks for the replys!!!! My water in the main tank is perfect according to my test kits... amm 0, nitri 0, nitra 0!, phos 0, calcium 450, alk 12, ph 8.2, salt 1.025. Alright so I need to treat with some other type of medicine in the QT. What about the main tank?? How long will I have to let it go unmedicated before I can add fish to the tank again??

What else do you see on the fish besides the deterioting fins? You mentions white stuff on the damsels mouth, can you be more specific?
Fish color, breathing, visible signs of parasites, etc.
Returning the fish to the main tank will depend upon what your fish currently have. Give as much detail as possible, giving your fish a good visual inspection. Use a magnifying glass when looking at them.

The fish are breathing alright and the colors are fine. The damsels lip looks just like it should, but instead of it being blue, the top portion is white(im stumped on this.) The tail fins are looking better with the copper treatment.

Why are you treating with copper at this point? What copper brand are you using, and are you using a copper test kit? Are you seeing ich back on the fish?

Ive been using coppersafe, and ive been testing the copper lvls, theyre at 2.0ppm. Ick isnt the problem no more, the only fish that had ick was the damsel about a month ago(none of the other fish ever had ick.) After I treat this supposed bacterial infection, how long will i have to let my main tank go before I can add fish to my tank with no worries? :D

Thanks for the replys guys, now that we are starting to get my situation solved... I have one more question. I know that with ick you have to leave the main tank fishless for 30 days. Does this rule apply to other diseases? If I treat with maracyn 2 in the QT, how long will I have to wait before the fish are better, and also, how long do I need to let my main tank go before I add my fish back to it? Sorry if im askin too many questions but I wanna get my HEALTHY tank back and running.. :D

Minimumly a month after fish removal from the main tank and, how long the fish will need antibiotic treatment will depend upon the fishs' reactions to the antibiotic. Expect at least 2-3 wks in QT.

first if you put copper in your main tank it will kill your rocks and sand so I dont think you should do that. I think ick comes to a fish only if it lives in a stressed enivroment like poor water quality, you said you had a maginum hot. does it use carbon if it does do you change the carbon beacuse i have heard that carbon can release alot of junk into the water if not changed every month you said eight months, maybe? but i would just change maybe 1/3 of your water because thoes fish you have will probaly die and dont worry they dont cost that much either. this happend to me around when I first started and my fish died lots of them in the first eight months anyways I didnt have enough water flow I used tap water and my tank was also fairly new (8 months) I think you should have a wet dry filter that will give you alot more oxygen in the water. watch temp. oh yeah fungus on fish is also very rare the cotton on the mouth is a secondary bacterial infection from the first ailmet. you may have also just stressed your fish really bad when putting it in the water. I always put the fish with the fish water into a bucket then take air tubbing and tie a not in the end and sipon the water into the bucket so it drips really slow about four hours for the fish than put the into a box that can go in the water that is made out of plastic that way i ensure the fish to be comftorable in its new water than release the fish when the lights turn off about three days later thats me also try not to buy sick fish and you will find out soon that fish will get sick and they always die. One more thing try a fresh water dip with each fish change 1/3 water if they die they die. be shure before you bye expensive fish that your accodimation teciquinqus are excellent and so is your water becacues you might loose alot of money hope i helped you contact me later if you have any questions:D
