Need help in setup of a PC hood

Here is my problem. I have a AGA 45 high tank, emperor 400 and the standard AGA complete hood that includes the flourescent strip light. I am buying a 36" jbj PC the dimensions are 35 x 6 x 2.5. from a member on this site, however his tank is a 46 bowfront. The existing strip light is 35x4.25, so I am coming up a bit short on room. So I have been looking for a all glass top but I have having problems envisioning the setup and having access to the front lid. Looking at the existing setup and imagining the new top I would have a overlap of the new light of about 1.25" which would stop the front lid opening up all the way. Do you think if I put the new glass top and add legs to the new light to raise it I would be able to open the lid up more? I have been to a few web sites to see dimensions of AGA pc's and their size is bigger than their own strip light that they sell. Could the problem be that the emperor is taking the room up in the back?
Thanks for the help on this

I think your best bet would be to buy or build a canopy for the tank. That way you can mount the lighting onto the canopy and have the room you want to either leave the glass top on or remove it. Most people that have the lighting mounted up off the tank remove the glass.
