Before you buy anything, you would be doing yourself the biggest favor to read everything you can. Start on this website and look under the New Hobbyist section. I would especially recommend 1. 101 Tips to Beginning & Maintaining a Saltwater Aquarium. and 2. Very Long and Good Advice. There is also a lot of good information in the Archives.
I love the book "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner ( a new updated, second edition just released in 2008). If you read this website you'll find other books, websites, and magazines that aquarists like.
One aquarium can't do everything. For instance, some fish eat corals so don't put them in a reef or they will eat your corals. Some corals have specific lighting requirements so you'll need to have the right lights for the corrals you want. Use the luxury of time to read about all of your options and then rank your priorities. Depending on the fish and/or corals you select, different equipment will be appropriate.
There is no "one answer" and different people like different equipment; acrylic or glass aquarium, refugium, sand vs crushed coral, different manufacturers, etc.
You will save a TON of money (and frustration) if you take the time to learn before you spend any money. The hardest part of this hobby is waiting. Wait for your tank to completely cycle before you add fish, invertebrates, or corals. And then wait some more and add items slowly.
Be sure you post pictures here so we can all see what you are doing. And most of all, have some fun
!
